I replied to her," This is a business. Businesses are supposed to give receipts. That's how business goes. "
But a few minutes later it made me think of why I wanted that receipt so badly. I didn't want to waste the $5.Now to some of us $5 might not to be much but to myself it's a lot and not only that there was a time I didn't have $5 and many who don't.
If we read the Quran we see we are rewarded for gratitude. And part of being grateful is to not waste your blessings and to protect them.
“. . . then when (Sulaiman (Solomon)) saw it placed before him, he said: “This is by the Grace of my Lord to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! And whoever is grateful, truly, his gratitude is for (the good of) his own self, and whoever is ungrateful, (he is ungrateful only for the loss of his own self). Certainly! My Lord is Rich (Free of all wants), Bountiful” [An-Naml: 40]
" If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings); but if you are thankless, verily, My punishment is indeed severe’” [Ibraaheem 14:7]
So it's important that even if we get a penny, just as we wouldn't waste food as our Prophet (SAW) has instructed us that we don't waste it.
Remember there are may in places like Syria and Palestine that would love to have your $5..be thankful that Allah granted you with it.
