Qaza Fasts – Skipping Sehri
Question:
I have started keeping my Qaza fasts that I missed in Ramadaan due to menstruation. Is it pemissible to fast without having Sehri although an intention is made before going to bed.
Answer:
It is Sunnah to partake of Suhoor before fasting. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has encouraged Suhoor and has stated that it is a time of blessings.
It is narrated on the authority of Anas ibn Malik (Radiallahu Anhu) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Partake of Suhoori, for indeed there is a great blessing (Barakah) in Suhoor”.(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith #: 1923)
It is important that one has Suhoor before fasting as it is Sunnah as well as a means of strength to the body during fasting.
Nevertheless, if you do omit Suhoor and make the intention of keeping a Qadha fast when retiring to bed at night, the fast will be valid.
