Eating at outlets where alcohol is served?

Question:

Is it permissible to eat at a restaurant that claims to serve Halaal food but also serves alcohol?

Answer:

Regardless of the food being Halaal or not, it is not permissible for Muslims to eat at such a restaurant. The fact that alcohol is being served at the same restaurant casts a shadow of doubt on the Halaal status of the food. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has prohibited partaking of meals from the table where alcohol is being served.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdillah (Radiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

“Whoever truly believes in Allah and the day of Judgment, he will not sit at a table where alcohol is served” (Musnad Ahmed, Hadith #:14651)

Based on this Hadith, the Fuqahaa (jurists) have ruled that it is not permissible to eat at a venue where alcohol is being served.
