Shaving the hair of the new born

Question: I read that it is makrooh to shave the head of a newborn baby girl. Please can you give me the shariah ruling on shaving the head of a newborn girl and why it is done or not done. Please also send reply to my email address.

Answer: It is Sunnah to shave the hair of the newborn (male/female) on the 7th day since childbirth. This practice is established in the Hadith.

It is not Makrooh.
