Duas for Protection

Question:

As salaamu alaikum

Due to certain incidents having taken place I am very nervous as I drive around town in Durban – I am a working parent. I read Yaseen each morning after Fajr, together with the last 3 surahs and Ayatul Qursi. Is there a specific dua I can pray for protection against criminal incidents and other trauma?

Answer:

Recite the Dua for leaving home,

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Transliteration: Bismillahi Tawakkaltu Alallah, Laa Hawla Wa Laa Quwwata illa Billah

Translation: In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no power and might except with Allah

In the Hadith it is mentioned whoever recites this Dua when leaving home, the Mala’ikah make the following Dua: “May you be guided, may Allah be sufficient for you, may you be protected from all harm” and Shaitaan distances himself away from the person. (Tirmizi).

B.Dua for maximum protection and safety

In addition to the prescribed Dua when leaving home, another effective Dua for protection is the following:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ

Transliteration: Bismillahillazi La Yadhurru Ma’asmihi Shay’un fil Ardhi wa La Fis Samaa’, wa Huwas Samee’ul Aleem

Translation: In the name of Allah, the one with who’s name nothing on the earth or in the sky can cause harm, and he is All Hearing, All Knowing

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever recites the above Dua thrice in the morning and evening, no harm will come to him” (Tirmizi, Hadith #: 3388, Narrated)
