DISTRIBUTING SWEETS AND GIFTS ON CHILDBIRTH

Question:

Inshallah soon we will be having a baby. Please tell us if handing out sweets and methai (Sweetmeats) after the birth of the baby to family and friends is permissible?

Answer:

It is permissible to hand out sweets and Mithai (sweetmeats), etc. after childbirth to family and friends as it is an occasion of happiness and joy with the condition that customs are not borrowed from other religions nor are there any un-Islamic practices involved. Furthermore, a person should not consider it to be a Sunnah or obligatory practice.

And Allah knows best
