REPETITION OF ISTIKHARAH

Title: Do I have to repeat my Istikharah if I have done it a few months before getting married?

Question:

I would like to know the specifics if istighara regarding marriage. If one performs istighara a few months before deciding to marry someone, is this istighara valid, or does the istighara pertain to the present only, and should a new istighara be performed at the current time one wants to get married. Furthermore, is it valid one or two years after, so if the couple wants to get married two years after that, is a new istighara supposed to be performed? Is istighara only for the present in terms of marriage?

Answer:

No. Istikharah is not only for present occurrences. If one had already made Istikharah for a certain matter which is to occur a few months –or even years- later, there will be no need to make Istikharah again if the persons mind is set. However, if the person falls in doubt at the time of the occurrence or a few days before, he/she should repeat the Istikharah.
