I WORK 180KM FROM HOME, AM I A MUSAFIR?

Question:

I work approximately 180km from home (town 'N') & stay with students (town 'U'). I go back home either at the end of the week (work: Monday - Friday= 5days) or at the end of 2nd week (work: Monday to Sunday to Friday=12 days). My family will move down to stay permanently in this new town 'U' at year end when school closes, Insha Allah. I would like to know :

•  Do I qualify as a 'musafir'

•  If this new town is my home town or the town where my family currently resides is still considered my home town until the move is permanent

Answer:

You are currently considered to be a Musafir. Considering that you will be adhering to your described schedule, you will remain a Musafir as long as your family does not take up permanent residence in town U. (al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah, Vol: 1, Pg: 139, Turath)
