Two Birds In A Cage

This Poem is taken from a member of an Islamic Online Forum after taking her permission.
Once I came across a parable of two birds in a cage,
Related from a revered scholar, a pious sage.
Colourful and free, many a birdsong did they sing,
Till the day, a Master came. With him, a cage did he bring.
For the birds, that was the beginning of the end,
And for us, a profound truth, so our ways we can ammend.

From within, the beautiful world outside, did they see,
With only one wish, to once again be set free.
And thus the world is a prison for those of faith,
a challenge to walk upon the path, narrow and straight,
The bird with wings doth craves to fly,
The human wants to reach every limit beyond the sky.

As day gives way to night, much a times does pass,
when others flock by, many a questions do the caged birds ask.
"Tell me, just like you, how can I be free,
the world outside, I long to see"
The birds reply, a secret in disguise, a lesson for you and me,
"Die before your death, and you shall truly be set free"

Two birds in a cage, upon this notion, did they contemplate,
A treacherous deception, this world does nothing but intoxicate.
And on one fine day,
Lay dead, an act they did play.
When the Master came he saw naught, but two birds in a cage, dead.
From every cavetous and lustful desire has the heart now fled.

Thus from the cage the two dead birds were finally removed,
within the blink of an eye their life swiftly improved.
Once again, they were truly free,
To simply be.
And for every seeker, striving on the journey of life,
each unlawful desire, must be put under the knife.

And this was is the parable of the two birds in a cage,
related to me by someone I love, a pious sage.
